As we all know, being at the right place at the right time
is when opportunities present themselves.
The 2004 Formula European Championships in Lostallo were such a place and
during the finals we had a £2000 Canon Camcorder attached under the
footbridge which spans the straight half-way down. I had put it to
one side to avoid any flying cars but little did I know it would do just
that,
As the final unfolded I was performing the main videoing from a cherry
picker some 10 meters in the air (top left in this picture) and saw this
happen and said to myself, 'That's one cam that is a goner'. Is
wasn't as it survived without a scratch to go on and give me another
